Story Time with Effie: Jackie’s Cartoons

Effie Mwando from Our Culture is Beautiful is back at KidsPlay this fall to share some amazing stories from important figures in American history!

This story time is focused on Jackie Ormes. Learn about and see the amazing cartoons and toy designs Jackie created throughout her career! What kind of toys can you imagine and create?

Carnival & Masquerade
Thursday, October 12

Join us for a special program with Coryse Villarouel about the celebration of Carnival in the Caribbean!

This educational and interactive program introduces children to the rich history of Carnival through a reading of “Coco’s Carnival Connection“, a fun and playful storybook written by Coryse herself!

After the story, the audience will see examples of the beautiful and intricate headpieces that dancers wear and will have the opportunity to try them on as well!

KidsPlay After Dark

Have you ever wanted to explore a children’s museum – but without the children? This October, you have the chance! KidsPlay After Dark promises an evening of terrifying threads, creepy cocktails, and plenty of frightening fun!

This adult-only event includes a spooky cocktail making classcostume contest, prizesmusicappetizers by Salt 2.0, and a cash bar! Don’t miss Torrington Collective‘s terrifying eyeball scavenger hunt.

Get decked out in your most terrifying threads (or most dreadful drip) and come down to the Museum to show that adults can play, too!

Scarecrows in the Meadow Opening Day

It’s opening day for Litchfield Historical Society’s 4th Annual Scarecrows in the Meadow at Tapping Reeve Meadow!
Watch KidsPlay participate in the scarecrow making challenge at 1 pm and join us for a Bilingual Storytime starting at 2 pm!

Bilingual Story Time: History of Scarecrows
Tuesday, October 17

Join us this special fall Bilingual Story Time at Tapping Reeve Meadow!

Themed stories are read in English and Spanish by KidsPlay volunteers Humphry Rolleston and Carmen Neale. Kate Zullo from the Litchfield Historical Society is also showing historical artifacts from their collection.

This story time is all about scarecrows! Learn about the history of scarecrows while enjoying the Tapping Reeve filled with fun and silly scarecrows curtesy of Litchfield Historical Society’s Scarecrows in the Meadow!

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs!

Spooky Science
Thursday, October 19

Join us for an evening of spooky fun! Become a mad scientist as you make Oobleck Glob Monsters, Eyeball Lava Lamps, Bizarre Bouncing Balls, Mysterious Full Moons, and more!

All ages are invited – some STEM experiments are more suitable for ages 5+. Program price includes Museum admission. Come play before the program!
