“The Scoop”: News from KidsPlay Children’s Museum, Summer 2024
KidsPlay’s Summer 2024 Donor Newsletter is here!
This summer has been one for the books at KidsPlay Children’s Museum in Torrington, CT! From new exhibits to special events, the Museum has been buzzing with activity. It’s been a memorable season for our visitors and supporters alike.
Prototypes & Seasonal Exhibits
One of the highlights of the summer was the introduction of the KidsPlay Raceway seasonal exhibit. This exciting addition brought the thrill of racing to the Museum, with visitors of all ages zooming around the track on Plasma Cars. The Raceway also featured hands-on activities like building Duplo race cars and testing the limits of physics on the Hot Wheels racetrack. It was a hit with families, sparking creativity and excitement throughout the summer.
In addition to the Raceway, we were thrilled to open the prototype of our Construction Exhibit. Young builders eagerly explored kid-sized machinery, tested out a mini pavement roller, and operated a real hydraulics-powered excavator and grabber. This prototype gave us valuable insights as we continue to refine and improve the exhibit, which promises to be a cornerstone of learning and fun in the years to come.
Summer Programs
KidsPlay also had the pleasure of hosting the KidsPlay Day Camp once again, offering unique learning opportunities to English language learners entering first and second grade in the Torrington Public Schools. The camp provided these young learners with a supportive environment to develop their skills while having a blast at the Museum.
We also celebrated a significant milestone with our 12th Birthday Bash. The event was filled with joy, laughter, and, of course, cake! It was a wonderful reminder of how far we’ve come and how much we’ve grown over the years, thanks to the continued support of our community.
Northwest Corner Gives
And finally, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to our success in the Northwest Corner Gives campaign. Through your generosity, we were able to raise $52,560 to support the replacement of our roof, ensuring that KidsPlay remains a safe and welcoming space for years to come.
