A Museum for the Community
A Museum for the Community is part of KidsPlay’s broad commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. The initiative’s goal is to ensure that the Museum welcomes the region’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens to participate in the simple joys and benefits of purposeful play in a safe and supportive environment. A Museum for the Community encompasses a variety of accessibility programs, including Museums for All, Community Membership, and Access Membership.
- Museums for All offers single-visit reduced-price admissions. Museums for All is the nationally acclaimed initiative of the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It encourages families of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum habits. The program enables low-income families to visit KidsPlay for a nominal fee of $2.00 per person by presenting a current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT card.
- Community Membership provides a fully subsidized six-month membership to referred families. This program is co-coordinated with the Museum’s strategic partner, the Community Family Learning Center (CFLC), to review referrals from numerous social service agencies within our community. Local agencies refer families for the Community Membership program due to poverty, language barriers, insufficient education in the household, or other circumstances.
- Access Membership is a program designed to reach families with a demonstrated need that local social service agencies have not identified. This new program is built on the Museums for All model and offers a substantially reduced price (subsidized) membership for qualifying families designed to reach low-income families (intended for households with a current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT card). This membership includes unlimited admission for a maximum of 5 children and 2 adults from the same household at a reduced rate of $25 for 6 months or $45 for twelve months.
