The Power of Play!
Prescription for Play
Play is incredibly important for your child’s healthy development, both at home and at school!
Play has been shown to be integral to the development of motor, cognitive, and social-emotional skills for young children. Spending time playing helps children to improve their executive functioning and reduce stress, mitigating the impacts of adverse childhood experiences. Guided play of the sort that happens in children’s museums can be very effective in encouraging the development of specific skills.
The American Academy of Pediatricians recently released new guidelines to empower pediatricians to write a “prescription for play” to every family they see. Read more about AAP’s recommendations and how families and communities are already using them below!
