KidsPlay Children's Museum Adjusts Policies to New Phase of Pandemic

Dear KidsPlay Community,

We continue to be encouraged by improving health metrics in our community and are pleased to introduce new policies and procedures for this new phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Museum's recent visitor survey showed a wide range of views on KidsPlay's policies and procedures in response to COVID-19, especially universal indoor masking for ages 2+.

At KidsPlay, everyone is welcome and should feel comfortable and safe in our space. In response to the variety of perspectives from caregivers who visit KidsPlay, we developed the following policies and procedures:

KidsPlay's mask policy as of March 20, 2022:

KidsPlay will offer times designated "Masks Encouraged" and "Masks Required".

  • During times designated "Masks Encouraged," visitors will not be required to wear a mask. They should expect that many visitors will not be wearing masks.
  • During times designated "Masks Required," everyone (age 2+) will be required to wear a mask that covers their mouths and noses within the Museum.
  • The Museum will continue to require all staff and volunteers to wear a mask that covers their mouths and noses in the public spaces of the Museum during both “Masks Encouraged” and “Masks Required” times, except for facilitators when they can maintain a 6' distance from the audience during a program.

The schedule of dates and times designated for “Masks Encouraged” and “Masks Required” will be adapted in response to demand and posted in Plan your Visit.

For events that take place outside of the Museum’s normal hours of operation,  including birthday parties and private rentals, the host will continue to determine if masks are “encouraged” or “required'' and will communicate their choice to their guests.

Other procedure changes:

  • Food and drink will be permitted at designated tables by the coatroom.
  • The water fountains are open.
  • One-way traffic will be encouraged but not enforced.

KidsPlay will continue to:

  • manage capacity (unticketed visitors will only be permitted as capacity allows.)
  • strongly recommend Advance Timed-entry Ticketing.
  • use the wristband system to let visitors choose red or green wristbands to indicate their comfort level interacting with other visitor groups.
  • clean and disinfect often.
  • provide handwashing stations and hand sanitizer throughout the galleries.
  • provide disinfecting wipes and “Wash Me Bins” for used exhibit components.

KidsPlay will continue to monitor the CDC's "COVID-10 Community Level" for Litchfield County, guidance from Connecticut's Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and Department of Public Health, and the availability of an effective vaccine for our target population. As we continue to adapt policies, we will post updates on our website.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and understanding as we continue to navigate the many changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Museum Director

P.S. We understand that children, especially between 2 and 4 years old, can sometimes have difficulty keeping a mask covering their nose and mouth. We ask caregivers to do their best to keep the mask secured and have found that children are exceptionally responsive to gentle reminders from staff.
