March Events at KidsPlay!

Astronauts acclaim planet earth for its beauty as one of the “jewels” among the planets in space. Scientific studies and indigenous knowledge have unlocked many of earth’s mysteries, and our imaginations have let many enjoy space travel through books and movies. This month at KidsPlay, we will explore the Earth and space through the lens of STEM and Storytelling.

March's StoryWalk™ is Pete the Cat is out of this World by James and Kimberly Dean.

Friday, March 4 at 6 pm: Latinx Community Conversation
Join us for a bilingual forum to talk about and plan for Latinx cultural exploration and appreciation events and support for Latinx parents and caregivers.

Fridays at 11 am: Tales with Humphry

Friday, March 11 at 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 27 at 9 to 10 am: Inclusive Playtime
Inclusive Playtime provides a sensory-friendly and judgment-free environment for play and learning for children with disabilities, on the autism spectrum, and/or sensory processing disorders and their families. Finding places for the whole family to play without stress can be difficult. During Inclusive Playtime we further limit capacity, lower the lights, decrease the sounds throughout the exhibits, and provide adaptive equipment such as noise-reducing headphones.

Saturday, March 12 at 2 pm: Native Storytelling
Join us as we welcome Darlene Kascak from the Institute for American Indian Studies to KidsPlay for a Native American storytelling experience. In Native cultures, oral storytelling teaches, guides, and entertains. Enjoy the lessons and magic of these traditional stories as told by an experienced Native American storyteller.

Saturday, March 19 at 2 pm: Read Aloud with Effie
Effie Mwando from Our Culture is Beautiful will share stories about more real people who made space travel happen. She will share true stories about early pilots, scientists, mathematicians and engineers. Do you want to learn about some of the unsung heroes of space exploration and flight?

In the Maker Space we are creating water conservation signs, inventing ocean life protection systems, creating astronaut suits, and learning how to weave.
