Kids in Motion - One Foot in Front of the Other!
Here is a fun and physical activity to play at home or at KidsPlay!
You'll often see children happily wobbling along balance beams in a playground. While it's fun for them to see how far they can travel without falling, they are actually developing skills that will serve them well in their daily activities.
Balancing on a beam requires complex coordination of a variety of large muscles. These muscles help a child to maintain posture and balance while moving. You can provide practice in maintaining balance in stages: begin with a simple path made from tape on the floor, gradually using a beam to increase the distance from the floor.
Join us at the museum this week as we create a variety of poses that help your child practice balancing skills, or you can download these poses to try these simple balance activities at home.
