We are so used to the availability of fresh food that we often forget to think about where it comes from. This week, our friends from 4H show us the importance of farming and agriculture in our daily lives.
Ask your child to think about all the steps involved in getting the wide variety of foods onto the store shelves. If possible, visit a farmer's market where s/he can talk to real farmers about the important work they do. Afterwords, share a farmer's story with your child, like Sleep Tight, Farm by Eugenie Doyle, or write a short letter or draw a picture thanking a local farmer.
