KidsPlay Chefs - Rainbow Salad
Colors are everywhere! We wear colors, we see colors, and with this recipe, we taste colors! Colors can help us express our feelings and make us excited to see the magic of a rainbow in the sky. In this recipe, we learn to sort foods into sets of colors of the rainbow, which guide us toward healthy food choices!
This is a great summer recipe because you don't even have to turn on the stove or grill. Our Rainbow Salad will fill our plates with colorful fruits and vegetables and help us to follow the My Plate guidelines offered by the USDA. It's fun to explore a grocery store, shopping by color, but it's also an adventure to see how many colorful foods you have in the refrigerator and on your kitchen shelves. My co-chef was determined to make her Rainbow Salad only using fruit; I mixed up fruits and vegetables. We both met the recipe's challenge by using every color of the rainbow: red, yellow, orange, green, blue and purple!
Please join us at Thursday's Show & Tell or send in your photos to email@example.com; it will be fun to share in your cooking adventure! My Crayons Talk by Patricia Hubbard and My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss are just two of many books that explore colors. These two titles focus on colors and feelings. Colors are everywhere!
