Author Study: Joseph Bruchac

For over thirty years Joseph Bruchac has been creating poetry, short stories, novels, anthologies, and music that reflect his Native American heritage and traditions. Caregivers will appreciate his art of storytelling and sharing his lyrical prose with their children. We are excited to learn more about him and to share his stories this October.

Meet and Greet a Real Rabbit
October 4 & 5 @ 10:30 am

Meet Henry the Bunny with Meg Tanner, an educator from the Litchfield County 4-H, UConn Cooperative Extension. Learn about mammals and habitats. Then, let’s pretend we are rabbits. Plus stories about real and pretend rabbits.

Real and Pretend: Native American Storytelling 

October 11 @ 10:30 am & October 21 @ 11 am

Join us as we welcome Darlene Kascak from the Institute for American Indian Studies to KidsPlay for a Native American storytelling experience.

Darlene will share Native stories to help us explore real and pretend animals. Rabbits, owls, and ducks will weave themselves throughout her stories and into your imaginations.

Let’s Meet Birds of Prey
October 12 @ 10:30 am

Join us to discover facts about owls and hawks with Carrie Szwed from the White Memorial Conservation Center. We will meet these amazing birds of prey and then pretend we are owls and hawks. Why are they called birds of prey? How are they the same? How are they different?

Meet and Greet a Real Calf
October 18 & 19 @ 10:30 am

Meg Tanner returns with a real calf! Learn facts about cattle. Where do they live? What do they eat? What other animals live on a farm. Then, let’s pretend we are cows! Plus stories about real and pretend cows.
