Caregiver Circle for Everyone

Caregiver Circle for Everyone

We recently initiated a new program at KidsPlay called Caregiver Circle. On Thursday afternoons, Miss Patty gathers with caregivers to talk about the joys and challenges of taking care of children and taking care of the caregivers. While open ended, each session is guided by a quote and resource. Because this information is important and helpful, we would like to share some of the information from her first few circles. Caregiver Circle meets on Thursdays at 1:00 pm. It is free with admission and advance registration is not required. Fun and engaging play opportunities are provided for your children in the room with you during the program.

Quote of the Day:

“The Major concern of young children is their own being. Because they are at a stage of psychological growth that is totally egocentric, it is only the maturing process – of which books are, or should be, an important part – that can introduce children to the world beyond their own and that of their immediate family… (books) offer children the opportunity to explore and understand their own feelings and the feelings of others. “ - Carolyn Carmichael, Literature and Young Children, National Council of the Teachers of English

Resource of the Day:

The Read-aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease

“If we would get our parents to read to their preschool children 15 minutes a day, we could revolutionize the schools.” - Superintendent of Chicago Public Schools, 1981

Quote of the Day:

“A lot of kids are very scared because they feel like they are somehow in danger, and we have to reassure them they are not going to personally be in danger…” - Kathleen Trainor, Child Psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital

Calming your Anxious Child: Words to Say and Things to Do by Kathleen Trainor

“When you’re a little kid, your heart is open, and a tender or harsh word can go straight in and become part of life.” -Garrison Keller
