We are closed for play today, Sunday, January 20. We wish you a safe and cozy day of play at home.
So, it appears this past week’s study of snow was interpreted as a snow-dance!
KidsPlay Children’s Museum will be closed today due to the overnight weather and forecast for freezing rain. However, that doesn’t mean this can’t be an absolutely fun-filled day away from the screen. Here are a couple of fun activities to do with kids with stuff you already have at home.
Create a rainbow in a jar. Teach your child about density and how different liquids have different weights. Use a variety of liquids to make multiple layers of color in your jar. Some liquid suggestions would be rubbing alcohol, olive oil, dish soap, honey, and corn syrup. While pouring the liquids in from heaviest to lightest, don’t forget to add food coloring after each to create a beautiful result.
If your child is tired of playing a particular board game or you have games with missing pieces, try to create something new. Have your child design their own game, including directions and a box to store it in. Make some popcorn, get comfy, and play your child’s new game all day.
We plan to open tomorrow, Monday, January 21 from 10 am to 4 pm, help us build a KidsPlay Snow Monster with our Rigamajig exhibit in preparation for NBC’s Snow Monster visit in the afternoon. (pending other weather emergencies) In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. day, we will also be creating dream journals, friendship bracelets, and peace dove puppets in our Maker Space.
